I'm excited to announce the opening of a new cohort for the Aralia School of Herbal Medicine!
I'm excited because with this cohort, I will finally be incorporating a way of teaching that I always wanted when I was a student.
My teachers were great at presenting an incredible amount of detailed information and insights that they had gathered throughout their careers to us in class. It was phenomenal.
But what was missing for me was time to sit and talk with them. Time to put out ideas and get feedback. Time to think through concepts, fill in gaps in my understanding, and engage with my fellow students.
I had always heard that when you study full-time with my teacher, the herbalist Michael Moore, for 5 months you then have to spend the next 5 years integrating the information. It was very true.
So as I started teaching and passing on the insights I have gained from my own clinical experience, I have been looking for a practical way to make it easier for students to integrate as they learn. And while I always preferred in-person learning and teaching, I finally hit on a model that can make online learning actually engaging and useful.
The new Aralia School learning model offers the best of both worlds: flexible, recorded lessons for foundational knowledge, paired with live, interactive sessions to discuss, integrate information, and connect.
By using this "flipped classroom" model, we can prioritize having your time with your instructor and peers be actual discussion rather than lecture, turning knowledge into practice within a supportive, thriving herbal community. It's really fun!
The Aralia Student Membership is a comprehensive year of study (with quarterly options) designed for dedicated beginner to advanced students looking for in-depth herbal education rooted in physiology and practical clinical experience.
In the curriculum, we will have a specific focus for each monthly live session. Included are:
- 8 Organ System Classes: Examine human physiology, discover the root of common imbalances, and learn to select the right herbal support.
- 50+ Materia Medica Profiles: Build a robust, deep knowledge of over 50 specific medicinal plants at your own pace throughout the year.
- The Herbal Pharmacy: Master the skilled medicine-making techniques required to create high-quality herbal extracts.
- Specialized Topics: Round out your skills with dedicated classes on medicinal mushrooms, adaptogens, herbal first aid, and kitchen herbalism.
